Life is Just so Daily and Sometimes Twisted

We had a sad day yesterday. All the kittens had to be put down. The mother refused to feed them and they couldn't tolerate the formula or even goat's milk. We tried so hard to save them. Each of us took a shift of every four hours. I fed during the early morning at 2:00 and 5:00 and the rest of the schedule was taken over with my daughters and son-in-law. I'm sure it was the smell of the dogs bed that upset the mother. She is feral and was saved from the animal shelter by my firemen husband. Didn't I mention that each day something happens around here?

Today someone let all our sheep out. The kids were at music academy and when Kiely walked out to water and all were loose, late this afternoon. The sheep were inside at 6:30 this morning. The gate only opens when someone forces it open and it isn't something the sheep could do. Easy fix getting them back in. I'm so glad that sheep follow the sheep-herder. The big ram is the most lovable of all. We have Finnsheep and they absolutely love people, and dogs. That's scary! All Kiely had to do is find a bucket with a few small horse pellets and they all ran in their pen for the treat. I actually think that somewhere along the way...people mixed-up pigs and sheep.

Pigs eat when they're hungry, same with goats, but sheep..they'll eat until it's gone. We are so careful with the feed, always covered and always locked away in the barn. Does this happen to other people? Oh yeah, the cows in the cabbage. I don't want to even know what happens after cows gorge themselves on cabbage. We don't grow cabbage.

Somedays I shouldn't get out of bed
